Locker question

RE: Locker question
I'd stick with a Detroit locker or an Eaton posi, but that's just me.
There are gears/springs/whatever inside that basically lock together under a load to force both rear tires to spin at the same speeds. when coasting, decellerating, or under very light accelleration they aren't locked and it'll allow the outside tire on a corner to spin faster than the inside tire (the driven one).

How exactly does a locker work, and what does it do? Is Moser or Auburn better?

this site has lots of good auto information on how stuff works.

but isnt that kind of the same idea as a limited slip.....locking under more force?

They're similar - the main difference is that a limited slip allows a difference in tire speeds, anywhere from 2:1 out to 4:1 or so, and a locker allows for no difference when engaged. Standing on the gas in a sweeper with a locker would most likely result in the inside tire breaking loose and spinning, possibly spinning you right into the wall/ditch, whereas a limited slip would still allow for a difference in speed and you wouldn't have nearly as much stability problem.
In a street car I'd go with a limited slip. If you're just going to be dragging it though, a locker might be better for you.
