331 stroker question
i rebuilt car last summer its now a 306 im wanting to go 331 stoker. what i need to kno is some part numbers for cranks to make it a 331.i haveported and polished heads gt40 heads, bored .30 over, with a B cam. im planning on spraying a 150 shot and a bigger cam. i need part numbers so i can do some research....thanks for any help
well for the 331..you need to change the whole rotating assembley like rods pistons and crank and gt-40 heads would be a little small IMO for a 331 and you may have to clearance the block a little....I know on a 347 you do...not sure about a 331 but anyway most 331 are 28 oz external balance so you'd need a different balancer and flywheel or flexplate depending if your auto or 5 speed
remember 302 parts make 302 power and if you want 331 power you need 331 parts

No block clearancing is needed for a 331. If I had it to do all over again I would have gone with a 347 instead, there is no replacement for displacement. I agree with mjr you are going to need better heads and a bigger cam. What intake are you running?
302 parts do not make 302 power. That is an exaggerated issue.
Take these 350-370 rwhp 302s. Add 29 more cubic inches.
Do you think you are going to make the same power?
Take your typical 300 rwhp combination out of a 302. Add the same top-end with 45 more cubes.

Nope
Killercanary (Paul) had a 304 rwhp 302, with AFR 165s, FTI custom cam, and Performer intake.
He took the same 302 camshaft, AFR 165s, and added a systemax intake. He reinstalled all of this on a 8.8:1 331 (less than his previous compression on a stock 302), and made 356 rwhp and ran 5 mph faster.
So he just swapped out the intakes, lost quite a bit of compression, but added 29 more cubes.
Gained over 50 rwhp and 5 mph with no other changes.
ALWAYS keep in mind the budget.
