Default speed density any good????

i am looking at purchasing a 87 gt 5 speeed with the sd set up and was wanting to know the pro's and con's of it. is it worth having and are there any serious issues and limitations. how hard is it to convert over to mass air oris the sd good enough? I am not looking to do any major mods just simple bolt ons like headers and exhaust.

SD is not bad but without a special tuner like lets say...a MEGASQUIRT...........CAM CHOICES will be limited or idle surge will be your companion but can easily be tuned out and from what I have studied on the megasquirt system sd will not be a limitation as that's what it's for and it's a fairly affordable system..you just have to learn what all the scaller tables are for and by changing the values in them what does it control/affect

oh heck if you don't plan so mod it..SD is just fine.. no need for mass air and with sd you can even change intake and heads but anymore than a mild cam heads and intake and you'll be pushing the 19 lbs injectors to the limit expecially if you put NOS on top of that...at that point you'd start to need a possible tuner..but for DD and a beater sd will be fine

You can change cams with SD, but with the stock system you have to be thoughtful in your selection of a cam so as to avoid certain problems. Going to an aftermarket setup can allow you to choose as radical a cam you want depending on the system. Some systems use alpha-n at an rpm you set, so it only looks at throttle position and rpm under the pre set rpm. That way you don't have the vacuum associated issues with idling a radical cam on SD.

^^^^^^a californis model 5.0 in 88 and up would be mass air equipped but 87 cali model should be speed density
