Need Some Help
alright so i got this mustang 88 5.0 and at about 2000 rpms it makes a kind of loud noise in the motor its not a throw out bearing but anyway it makes it until you rev higher the timing is set a little high but it was doing it before i set the timing. could it be a rod knock? or worse is ther anyway to fix it without tearing apart the motor?

not really sure kind or ticking but a loud tick like not a constant noise a clank clank but doesnt sound like metal on metal at all. if it is a rod is there any additives to make it stop or go away for a while? i got another motor im building but i want to be able to drive this one with no noises for a couple months til its done. the sound goes away in the lower and higher rpms just hear it in the mid range when im driving

Kinda hard to begin to diagnose since your not sure what kind of noise it is. A video would be nice. I dont think you could confuse a rod knock. It could be many things including bit definately not limited to exhaust leak,u-joints,rockers,lifters, pinking or spark knock, etc.Increasing your timingyou need to upgrade the fuel. Are you adjusting timeing with timing light. Take it back down to ten and see what that doe's for you.

what does it sound like it is i dont know how to make an audio of it, but does it sound like a rod knock the car flies and drives fine, it will randomly die somtimes though after warming up for 20 minutes. but the sound it kind of loud and goes away im just not sure if that sounds like a rod knock, but what about mystery oil will that maybe fix somthing for me i just dont wanna hear the noise until i blow the motor up and put the new one in this spring

RE: Need Some Help
A rod knock would sound something like a hammer tapping on a piece of wood(?). It will increase with rpms. A rocker arm or lifter sounds more like a "tick tick tick" and it will also increase with rpms. It's really hard to diagnose based on your description.
