you don't need to put a piston in it to tell...take an old ring and put it in the cyl take a small flashlite and I bet you'll see light between the rings and wall..the car will smoke and have low compression in that cyl....sorry to say but cut your loss on this block[

That hot tank job is terrible!!! My block looked brand new when I got it back.
Oh...and I would scrap that block if I were you. If that scratch is big deep enough to catch a finger nail on, then it no good dude. Your "machinist" should have been able to tell you from the beginning, that the one cylinder wall was ruined....before he did any machining.

it costed 125 for the tank and the bore. luckily i have a spare block that i just got this week, so ill punch the block # into the comp and see how it matches up.
the "scratch" is not an actual scratch. what it is is the block was messed up at the top; the bore got bigger at the top. then atop of that was a HUGE ring ridge, so big the pistons wouldnt come out. so there is a tiny chance that the rings wont go up that high.

man get a new sleave that is fuked. this is my 351w i built 2 years ago my block looked like it was new out of the box and mine was done 40 over i think 357 ? but mine is a 4 bolt main got it for 500 the guy didnt know what he had i love it when that happens
