e brake dont work

its connected right but has to much slack and doesnt work. how do you fix this? its a 89

well on my 94 where the cable comes down from the handle and splits to the two separate cables for each side..it was connected with a bracket that had a nut to adjust how much tension the handle side had...try lookin underneath..idk if urs will be the same setup tho..being 5 years older..

if you have drum brakes on the rear..make sure that the cables which are connected to the parking brake arm on the back side shoe is not froozen or siezed..also inspect condition of brake shoes and self adjusters are not froozen up

also, check to make sure that the rear brakes don't need to be changed. My e brake didn't hold crap. I always had to leave it in first when parking on a hill, and crank up on the e brake as much as it would go. I tightened the cable to its max and still had the same problem. I put it new shoes in the rear and voila, good as new.
