Timing problems
I got to run my car for the first time at night and noticed my headers start glowingwhile just sitting at idle for a few minsand the timing at 10 degrees. I know that means that the timing is off and when I hook up the vac advance on the dizzy it starts running really ruff and backfires. I checked with a light while it was doing this and it was hitting way past the 30 degree mark and my base timing is set at 10 degrees.
I didn't put this motor together nore do I know the guy who did but I am thinking the cam gear was set off a tooth for more torque because the motor used to be in a muddin bronco. I was told it has some aftermarket cam so that gives me the idea that they played with the cam timing. Tomorrow I am gonna back the timing way down to see if that helps out at all. It runs pretty good without the advance hooked up but after I do put that line on it runs like ***.
What do you guys think? I am going to bed and will check back in the morning.
Thanks
