Block.
I been planning on building a motor for my new mustang that I will hopefully buy very shortly. But I just have a question about the blocks. When should I switch to a 4 bolt main block. Or even how good will a 2 bolt main block last and what can it handle up to. What are good blocks to get. Is the new boss block worth it? Or is there better ones. When does 4 bolt mains really count? These are my questions. I hope I can get the answers I'm looking for.

RE: Block.
If it will see over 7k rpm often, I'd go aftermarket. If it is going to make over 500rwhp and you're going to be hard on it, I'd go aftermarket. That's not to say either can't be done on a stock block. That's just where I'd look to upgrade.

Thank you for your response FullAuto. But now what is after market for blocks. Whats out there and whats good. Is a ford racing sportsman block an after market? Or should I go crazy with a dss block? What are my options and what should I buy and what should I stay away from?

RE: Block.
Ford did not make stock windsor block with 4 bolt mains to my knowledge, and if there is one out there it will cost you due to rarity. DSS is not an after market block, they use stock blocks and do alot of maching that doesn't make them any stronger. A Sportsman block is aftermarket but is not much stronger than a stock block. Dart, FRPP Boss 302 (new block), and World Man-O-War are some of the strongest with Dart being the most popular.
What kind of build are we talking about? Are you sure you need a aftermarket block?

RE: Block.
I don't even know what I want as far as build. I just wanted to ask a question that I haven't seen asked and I wanted to know information about this topic. Thats all.
To be honest. I like quarter mile cars. But I don't want to make mine into one of those. Don't get me wrong I will be taking it to the track when my friends go and doing some passes. But I want to make my car like a top end car. Not really a road race car. But just have that top end. Like a mix or road race/rally and quarter mile thats what I'm looking to make with my next mustang. I want to build something thats different because all I see are quarter mile mustangs. I want to go a different route and build a sick road race/rally car. But still be able to take it to the track and kick import ***.

RE: Block.
You could always go early model blocks with a girdle and be good to 550 HP or so.
I have a 68 block with windage tray, 347 stroker and SC and have been told I'd be fine with 100 additional HP by the engine shop.
