Trans Question
So I got the bad one out and plan on putting the other one in tommorow. When I tried to get it in the other day, I could get the splines lined up. Any one have any suggestion on the easiest way to line them up?

RE: Trans Question
no you shouldn't need a tool..what I ususally do is put tranny in gear before install and lube tip of input shaft allong with splines and retainer and use a yoke from a previous driveshaft and shove it in the opening of the tailshaft so I can rotate splines so I can line it up while wiggling tranny into place....works everytime

RE: Trans Question
well since it's out.....you really should look at the flywheel, have it resurfaced, do a stock replacement clutch at minimum if your less than 1/2 the disk life left, and do the rear main.
the alignment tool comes in most every clutch kit
on a super budget ? reuse the old clutch parts, but resurface the flywheel and do the rear main...your looking at $30 total
when you get it in...there will be a 1/2" or so gap......have someone press the clutch in to to aleviate the pressure plate force...then you can "home" it and get a couple bell housing bolts in to keep it there
some people just bring it home by evenly tightening all of them...but you can risk breaking an ear off

RE: Trans Question
Alright, so I tried for about 3 hrs to get the son of biatch in...I can get it in EXCEPT about 1 1/2 to 2 inches... Whats the hold up? I wanna get this stupid thing in so I can take it out while the weather is nice but I cannot get it in those last 2 inches. I tried turning it while trying to shove it in but it won't spin, so I am assuming that it is because its either stuck on something, or it is part way in... NEED HELP

RE: Trans Question
That last 2" you are trying to line up 2 things. The input shaft into the pilot bearing and the spline to the disc.Any angle and it's not going. When you get to the last 1/2" the bearing retainer goes into the bellhousing. Not usually a problem.
MJR's idea should get it in there. Get some help to hold up the back of the trans while the other guyrotates the output shaft.

RE: Trans Question
This **** sucking thing, I will tell you what... I am going to try lubing it up and see if that makes any difference. I am also going to try putting the whole car on jackstands rather than just the front, so the car will be level. I can get it to right where the bolts would start going in but thats as far as it will go.
