Lost compression
I know someone who has a "jasper engine" in his 5.0LX. He has had problems with smoke since he had the engine put in his car. Now, 3 years later, he found out that there is no "compression" in #8 cylinder. What should he do? And if it is worth it, should I buy it?

RE: Lost compression
My guess is you dropped a valve. If that happened then there is a good possibility that the piston may have come up and slapped the valve causing piston damage. But you need to take the head off to be sure.

RE: Lost compression
First lesson, avoid Jasper Engines, I have found some with oversize pistons in a few bores, the rest standard. And the pistons and rings cleaned very well to look good, and they just throw in bearings.
Your better off rebuilding what you have or a used one, and doing it slow and the right way.
They shortcut alot.[:'(]

RE: Lost compression
if its just one cylinder, he may of dropped a valve, or carbon, is preventing the valve from sealing or a piece of gasket or rtv from the lower intake.
Pull the intakes off, and if you have a shop vac, as you put it on the runners, you can tell if its the head thats the issue, or if you got to go down low.
It will make the noise, just like putting your hand on the vac
