would it be possible to run a older style coil?

It's probably no better than what you have, but you will need a coil wire with the right ends ang you will have to cut your wiring harness to crimp on eyelets that will connect to the MSD coil. OPersonally, I don't think it's worth the trouble.

I know this is gonna sound stupid. But I know all of my wiring has been messed with by the old owner. Is it unusual to only have two wires running into my stock coil? I was thinking it'd be easy to use the msd because i figured one of them was a positive and one was a neg. and that i could just put ends on each one and use the msd coil. The coil wire coming from the distributor cap wont work?

You don't have to cut your old harness. You can buy two male blade connectors & push them up into the old connector then put eye connectors on the other end. You may have to change the coil wire depending on what style plug the coil is.
I would tape up the old connector if you use the blade connectors to be sure it wont arc to anything while driving.

Does the MSD coil have threaded + & - post?
And the coil wire depends on if your MSD coil has the same male terminal as the EEC-IV coil does now.
I will have to look at my 88 to see how many actual wires are in the harness to the + & - terminals on the coil.
I am assuming you are working on a 93 5.0?

Yeah the 93. The coil does have negative and positive threaded posts. My coil wire fits on there i that means anything? So is one wire on my stock coil a positive and the other a neg?

it doesn't matter how many wires are going into the + or how many are going into the -. You could have 50 wires going into the + side of the coil still wouldn't change what it is.
Like I said, buy two male blade connectors. One goes into the side with red/light green (this is the coil positive), the other goes into the tan/yellow (this is the coil negative). Then you use two eye connectors on the coil + & - accordingly. It's a very very simple thing to do. Requires 4 connectors total & two short lengths of wire. Then you plug your coil wire to it. Simple. If you need I can draw a diagram.
