I worked for Valvoline for several years and was able to pick the brains of many people there about topics like this. Like they said dont use synthic oil until after breaking in the motor. Keep the same oil in for the first 3,000 miles but make sure you check it since new motors might burn some oil. Also when breaking it in dont drive it hard but make sure you vary the RPMs. Dont drive 3,000 miles on a highway at 2000 RPMs to break it in. After that switch to synthetic and have fun. The truth is unless you take it to the track first thing you are going to be just fine.

Same oil for 3000 miles on break in? You mean use the same kind but not the same oil for 3000 without changing oil did ya? I would change oil after 500 to get metal and like cam grease out.

Pick up the new muscle mustang and fast fords magazine, there is a great tech article about motor oil.

No they said to use the same oil for 3,000 miles. In fact in most honda owners manuals it says not to change the oil that comes from the factory for 7,500 miles to let the motor break in. I know we are not driving hondas think god but thats how its done. It dont sound right to me either but companys like valvoline and honda know more about oil than most of us ever will.

well on the last motor i did, i used accle non detirgant oil, something to let the rings wear a little, and it worked good, but i dont know how it will affect the motor because i wrecked the car. i changed the oil in that at 200mi, then at 400mi and thats as far as i got lol[:@]
