I was talking to a friend today about the speedometers in the 80's Foxes, and he said that the state police Mustangs had a speedometer that went up to 160 MPh, and a different speedo cable as well. I was just wondering if there was any truth to this.

 

yep the cops had 160 acertified claibration speedos, since if they were gonna be able to pull some one over for speeding they should at least have the correct speed right? lol but yea they had them as far as a different cable i'm not so sure since all the cable does is spin, the speedo should do all the rest

 

i even seen a guy selling one on ebay that was out of a saleen that was a 200 mph speedo... i have seen a couple of the 160 speedo's around though...

 

as long as your making atleast 1.21 jiggawatts, you dont need one that goes up higher than 90...whats the problem?

mine came w/ a 170mph Saleen gauges...i still want to get it up to 170mph..lol.

 

My sister got a 160 speedo from a nebraska hypo car as far as the different speedo cable i also dont believe so

The police package mustangs had an option for a 140 or 160 MPH speedo. They were also available with a 2 piece VASCAR speedometer cable which enabled them to hook up a unit that would "pace" another car.

Here are pics of the 160 speedo and certification label from my 89 SSP. Mine was not equipped with a 2 piece speedo cable.

 

I thought my friend was just feeding me a line of BS, because I had never seen a Mustang Speedo over 140 on a Fox. I guess the police stangs weren't messin around.


so... anyone got a 160 MPH speedo they're gettin rid of??
