Default Simple Question

I had put in a MR. Gasket high performance 180 stat and when i'm goin down the road my car only runs at 160. I do have underdrive pulleysbut that shouldn't effectmy temp like that while driving.Should i go back to just a normal 180 stat instead of this high performaceone?

I will say that the Mr. G stats DO run colder than what they are rated at.

So is there a point to your statement. I mean it's random. Do you know what it actually means?

i know it doesn't hurt to run cooler, just more fuel consumption when just driving around under normal driving conditions.

Is it bad to run cold... Or to use a 180 T/stat?

i know its obvious.. but are you positive it's a 180?

i run a 180 ($6 no brand) with a very big electric fan and aluminum radiator and the temp still reaches 190-ish in traffic.

and yes the computer has closed loop (which runs off pre-set integers) and open loop (which runs off sensor readings.. 02's.. coolant temp.. etc..)

I had the same issue. I ran a 180 but the car would still run anywhere from 195 to 210. Too warm for my liking. I put a 180 Mr Gasket in mine w/ some water wetter and now it runs between 160-175. That's what I wanted. It's a blower car so I want as cool a temp as I can get and still be as efficient as it can, if that's possible.

Droptop, yes if it runs too cold, you will burn more gas as it will take longer to reach closed loop.

yeah i know for sure that it was a 180 stat in mine, just wasn't sure why that stat doesn't keep it at 180 or so, but from what you said pro50 i can understand why it runs cooler since they are suppose to run cooler than rated

i believe this is because Mr G stats are fully open by their rated temp instead of just opening at the rated temp like other stats.
