i have a computer out of an 88, will it work with an 89? cuz i know 88 is s/d and 89 is maf

i just converted my 86 from a sd to mass air and had to put my stock computer in for some testing, it ran but not well, if you have a mass air car it will run with a sd computer but it won't be the way to go, if you want your car to run right, get the mass air computer it's the only way to go.
