Default compression

I'm fixing to stroke my 351 to a 408 but I'm trying to keep the block on pump gas. Whats the most I can go on compression? Is it better to just buy a crankkit orbuys the parts individually?

That totally depends on the setup, fuel availability etc. THere's no set compression you can run and be alright.

if you have aluminum heads it'll help out and stick around 10.5 to 1 to be safe.. I ran 11 to 1 on a 306 with pump gas no probs

go with a kit, talk to local machine shop, but heres what i would do- go to fordstrokers.com and talk to woody and buy your stuff there. they have very very good prices, excelent shortblocks, and top notch customer service. cant go wrong there!

Yep Yep. You should be able to run 11.1 with 93 as long as your timing is right.

i was gonna say the same area 11.1 and lower no higher for pump gas,

as a buddy of mine put in a 357 in his 68 fastback and he wasnt to sure and thiught bigger was better and he called me and it wouldnt stay running for the life of him went over there, nice motor rr'vic jr, ported to hell dooe heads with bigger valves,850 4150 carb i think, lt's..blah...blah. but he went with a kb hyper piston and i came over and it sounded badass and it just surged and wouldnt idle we fu##ed with the carb, timing for a while then i asked what kinda pistons and he told me and then i looked them up and his compression was around 12.1-12.5 and i was like dude that ****ty 87 wont make this thing run so we drained 1/2 tank and threw in other half with 114 and it then ran pretty good not perfect though , but damn that thing is mean but like i told him too big of a carb, comp, and a cam in the 600-625 range it was nasty but a dog until 4000 or so then it ran like a **** until the valve float cause of the stock valve springs and i wa like dude ahh u need to change those and he didnt and the motor died about 100 miles later all the bearings were wiped out along with the cam the oil pump seized and he didnt know and kept runnin it.

i gave him **** as he had those ricer faze or fuze guages. 11.1 or lower

fordstrokers.com is where I wanted to buy the kit from. Either way I was going to have someone slap it in for me. So I'm guessing there a serveral things that can play a factor in keeping it on pump gas? I'll difinately call these guys up and see what they recommend. Thanks.
