Default Killer Rust

I bought a 84 mustang years ago up north in Ohio and the under-body has lots of rust. I know i can replace the floor panels but how do i decide if it's a lost cause to restore. The motor is in pretty good shape. I'm wondering if i have any alternatives. One mechanic told me i should find another body but where can i find a good body for a reasonable price? Any ideas please?

How much did u spend on the car? In my opinion when it comes to these cars if the floors need replaced.... replace the car. It will probably be cheaper. The best place to look for a good body is in another car, find a solid car with a shot motor and swap that in. Other wise have fun cutting and welding and cutting and welding and then... finding more rust to cut and weld. Unless u have the resources to do it major rust repairs are generally a waste of time. Most body shops will not even touch rust any more unless very minor.Restoration shops are a different story and they will usually cost alot more. My 2 cents after dealing with a swiss cheese 71 malibu that even with full access to car(completey stripped and off the frame) I ended up selling the shell and buying another Chevelle with shot mechanicals. There was just more than I bargained for. After cutting out floors you find that rockers are rusted through not to mention plenty of small places that require custom metal because replacements arent available.

Do urself a favor, strip ur car for parts whether they are body or mechanical, and find a 4 or 8 cylinder with a good body.

I spent $1800 on this car about 8 years ago. I can get most of the parts such as floor panels from "mustangs unlimited", but i'm just wondering if it's worth it to invest in another car/body. I have looked everywhere and have yet to find a body for a reasonable price. I have plenty of time and it's a project car so i guess i'll just focus on the motor untill i find a good body, but i'm starting to wonder if there's any out there. Any suggestions?
