Question 5 lug conversion???

so the left rear slave cylinder is out on my stock drums, so i'm thinking rather than dumping money into fixing my nasty drums i should upgrade to discs. i'm pretty low on cash tho. I've heard that the 94-98 rear discs brakes would bolt on easily as they have the same 8.8 rear end as my 89 GT. is this true?? what would be the best and most affordable way to do this??

Yeah everything bolts up but what you get is a wider track in the rear by 3/4" on each side.

You'll also need three emergency brake cables from Ford Racing, a different master cylinder, an adjustable proprtioning valve, proportioning valve plug kit from Ford Racing, brake line adapter kits, 3-2 port conversion kit since you have an 87+, different wheels, oh and you need to do the front in either a cheap five lug or sn95 parts that can range from 94-98 GT/V6 brakes to cobra brakes.

It's not going to be very cheap. I'm not sure what it cost me total but it stops great and it has five lug...it feels like a real car now...

a recent 5.0 magazine article compared mustangs built by ATI students. one of the cars kept drums and stopped quicker than others with 2000-3000 dollars in aftermarket kits. I have ssbc conversion, it doesnt help much. if you are not willing to spend at least $1000 on rear brakes alone, dont mess with it.

conversion for your car by going to a junk yard. Will be cheaper than getting brand new spankin parts. You should beable to get the rear calipers and rotors for around 100 form a junk yard. I paid about 100 for the cobra caliper set for my gt.

Can always look around on ebay also.

I did a buget swap...87 Lincoln LSC front rotors & ranger rear axles & drums...worked great...be careful with rims because of the 87-93 front bearings! I used 95 Cobra R-rims, 17x9, as they work fine with the 87-93 set-up........looked great

i did the lincoln lsc upgrade for the front thats the easiest and cheapest way to do it. I went to auto zone got the rotors and new pads, went home and changed them out. I think the big bearing issue is only with the ford racing wheels because my welds had no problem only wheels with small center cap areas may pose a problem. But switching to rear disk helped me out a lot while trying to slow down after a quarter mile run. I went with the wilwood kit so it was expensive but deffinently worth it in my opinion
