Default car sputtering when giving gas

Lately, when I try to accelerate, the car feels like it's sputtering. The acceleration is not smooth at all...almost as if it's not getting enough fuel.

It doesn't happen all the time either. Maybe 2 times a week it will happen.

Going to check the air filter.

thoughts?

A few things come to my mind 5.0. If you have an 88+ Mustang I would first clean your MAF, although this is probably not your problem. Check you fuel pressure. It should read around 40psi and hold steady, I believe. Replace your fuel filter. Since you say it happends periodically, it could be a slowly failing fuel pump. If you have a slightly modded mustang your stock 88lph fuel pump is probably not sufficient.

sounds like a fuel issue, change filter, if that dosent work try the pump. niether are very hard to do and both can be done for about 100 bucks.

I was having the same problem before in my supercharged 90 5.0. I had a 255 pump but it was not the problem. I replaced the TPS, IAC, EGR and fuel filter and cleaned my Mass air and it ended up being my MSD6AL box... Definatly try cleaning your mass air and check to see if your throttle position sensor is set to .98-.99v

I should know this for sure, but I think the check engine light does not flash, the air bag light definately flashes though, and the low coolant senser light stays on even when full. As far as mods...BBK ceramic shorties, BBK x-pipe with cats, mac exhaust, mac cold air intake, Centerforce I clutch with Ford Racing Aluminum clutch quadrant. The rest is basically stock.

New radiator and hoses, heater core bypassed, all new R12 A/C completely redone, New IAC valve last year, fuel filter changed 2 months ago, water pump 2 years old, new alternator, new thremostat, Optima red top battery.

Im still leaking coolant from somewhere despite having all this replaced. FUN FUN!!

** I just noticed today that the idle was kinda rough. I was parked with the engine running. Usually the idle is smooth and the rpm needle stay put, but this time it would jump ever so slightly upwards about 1mm every 3-5 seconds and I could feel the car shake a little each time.**

I'll have to try cleaning the Sensor over the weekend. thanks
