Default Differences bet 87-93 5.0

searched it, got nothin. So, what (if any) are the differences between the years as far as motor, drive train, chasis, stopping, rear end, etc for the 87-93 5.0?

What are the differences between the GT and LX- just bumper covers? I like the looks of the GT but the LX's seem to be a little cheaper here in the Bay Area... so can i just swap bumpers and be done with it?

that;s all for now...

oh yeah, in the classifieds here i see all day long "off road pipes" mentioned. i assume this means the stock cats have been removed and replaced with straight pipes. is it easy to swap the two back and forth? considering i live in the socialist state of CA, i'll have to visit the smog **** every two years [:'(].

GT is a body package. thats it. you can swapp it over if you wish

motors are same except 93 have different pistons
87 88 have SD
88 to 93 have maf

offroad means no cats

anything else you want to know

87s and all the 88s except the CA cars were speed density and in 93 they changed the pistons. The 89s and up had MAF. The off road H-pipes have no cats but they are easy to swap out if you have the stock h-pipe. The GT vs the LV are just cosmetic with the bumpers and ground effects. Otherwise they are the same. If you want a GT get it. The price should not be too great if you look around.

thanks fellas. so with the SD i read i'll have to pull the "chip" and have it tuned for corresponding mods, but with the MAF the computer will adjust for it on its own?? That doesn't sound right...
I have a MAF in the caprice and sent away for PCM tuning from pcmforless.com (a BETTER version of Hypertech power programming) to adjust for my mods... is there a PCM in the 87-93's that should be tuned? or is it still the "chip"
thx for your patience fellas, i need to get a haynes manual

Both will need be reprogrammed if you go heavy mods. The MAF will handle more mods than the SD systems though.
