Default Rear wheel bearing removal

Not my mustang, but my Ranger with the 8.8 in it...same thing basically. Anyway I am rebuilding that rear right now and I can't get the wheel bearings out.

I am using a big slide hammer and I have tried heating the housing around the bearing....the F'er isn't moving. My next step is the get a piece of round stock from work about 60" long to stick thru the rear and beat it out from the opposite side...I think that would work with a BFH. I was also thinking about making a puller.

What is the best way??

I bearing puller with an impact wrench on it may work but if it is that seized in you may go with the stock through the other end idea....that will work.

you need a slap hammer, with a bearing attachment on the end that has 3 fingers whose jaws spread out to grab inner edge of bearing and slap away

That is what I have been doing with no luck. Slap hammer, slide hammer, same thing.

This sucks *****....I wanted to get the gears set up tonight. I guess I will get a pipe at work and try knocking it out that way.

everytime I have done one I have slapped it so hard it rips the rollers out of the bearing cage and just leaves the outer casing, and if it is stuck that bad , if you can get a die grinder in there shove rags in the tube to keep metal shavings out and slice the case with the die grinder bits

take a flat head, and start hittin different spots on the outtercase, try to break some spots loose rather than the whole thing at one time.

^^ thats what happened when we redid my rearend..the bearings all came flyin out..and if that happens with yours...make sure to check down the axle tubes and make sure none of them rolled back in there..that happened with one on mine and i just noticed it when we were gettin ready to put the new ones in.
