Default Fuel pump or reg? maybe something else?

I just did a rebuild on my 5.0, and now I'm having what seems to be a fuel issue. More so when it's hot, and mostly only when I do full throttle or near full throttle runs, towards higher RPM's it starts sputtering like a machine gun, sounds like fuel is cutting out. I want to get a fuel gauge on there and moniter it while I'm driving but I don't have any money for any of that, lol.

Does this sound like a fuel problem?

Also, the car seems to have a dead spot somewhere around 2-2500rpms, not much power happening there. When I timed my cam in, I just went Dot to Dot, that wouldn't cause a power loss too bad would it? I've never done much research on degreeing a cam or anything and didn't get that exstensive with it.

One last problem. If I'm just cruising, say 4th gear, maintaining about 35-40mph, probably below 2k or right around there, if I let of the gas and get back on it really lightly the whole car will start bucking, like I'm releasing and applying the gas . The car is also running really rich due to no o2 sensors which will get put in once I get some money.

Thanks.

I had a problem that sounds similar to yours. The car would sputter throughout the rpm. When I'd give it gas it started breaking up real bad right around 2500rpm+. I replaced everything, fuel pump, fuel filter, MAF, Coil, plugs and wires, headgasket, etc. Turned out to be a faulty distributor(Autozone remanufactured). Took about a month to figure it out.

did your's do it at a free stand rev, or only under load? Mine seems to be only under a load, it'll rev clean if I'm sitting in nuetral.

As for the distributor I just got another remanufactured Autozone unit since it was free under warranty. I guess it is a hit or miss beween those. If you can run codes do it while the car is running. If the PIP code or anything within the distributor pops up, then it is 100% your distributor is faulty.

https://mustangforums.com/forum/speed-density-carb-ssp-section/480567-87-missing-at-high-rpm-wot.html

I just posted the same problem the other day...

my car was doing almost the same thing...after replacing IAC,tps, coolant temp sensor, cleaning egr,tb, changing fuel filter.

it ended up being my plugs.....which were still pretty new. so change the plugs its cheap and wont hurt...

just my .02

has new plugs and rotor and cap. Wires are the old ones, but I think I remember checkin resistance on them and they were ok. Coil I replaced like not even a year ago as well as the TFI module.
