Default Backfiring problem

I have a pretty modified 88 Gt that is Speed density. I have a Vortech super charger on the car and it runs extreamly well except that usually in third gear i get a couple slight backfires. im not sure how to solve the problem any direction?? also i get a really huge back fire usually in first or second if my rpms go higher then 5k. Thanks
