Default Check Engine Light code 66 help!!!?

My 90 5.0 5speed spit the number 66 code at me. Says the MAF mass air flow is below minimun voltage or low voltage something like that. The motor idles irratically and has no cam. It affects my breaks when i try to stop at a 4-way the car sometimes dies and I lose the breaks its pretty scary. Other than the Idle, the exhaust smells pretty strong not in a good way. The motor still performs well though? Just the idle is messed up, gotta feather the pedal sometimes like its a carb. help me out here if you know how to fix it, or have had the same problem. thanks!

Had the same problems and code years ago and replacing the MAF fixed everything. You can either clean the sensor inside the housing or replace the MAF entirely. Youll need a special security bit to remove the sensor from the housing if you decide to clean it. Use electrical cleaner. For some odd reason, nobody had the bit when i needed it.

Check your exhaust for leaks. Do you smell it inside the car or just with the windows open?

Not sure about the brakes. Im not into cams.

Do you have any mods done to your car, like maybe a CIA, or a different MAF?

Nope has the stock MAF. I wish I could get that tool to remove it. Anyone know where I can get that?

actually i've had good results on cleaning the MAF with just spraying "MAF cleaner" straight down the tube! I never had to take the actual unit out! but it would probably be better if you did! I cleaned it without taking it off the other day and gained a few horses!

So I took it off.. and there is 4 prongs on the underside that is supposed to have tiny wire connected around it as a circuit Id assume..and those little wires are all broke in half... Probably the probelm right there, so I need to fork out some cash for a new sensor eh?

could I get away with just replacing that sensor, or do I have to buy the entire unit/ sensor and housing?

you could get just the sensor, but I think they come as a unit unless you go to a junk yard. I would pick up one of these...
