Question Starter Problems

I have an 85 GT. It has a push button starter and the problem is that when I bought the car the starter would continually turn even after starting. I solved this by wiring the button straight into the starter solenoid. After months of no problems it started to continually turn again. So I tested the button, solenoid, and grounding. They are all good but power keeps going through the solenoid. I replaced it, and it worked to about three weeks of no problems I went to start it and I heard a funny noise and it stopped trying to turn over, I checked it out and the solenoid was completely melted! I had to yank the cable of the battery to stop power going to it. So with a new solenoid I can diconnect the button, so just battery and stater are hooked up and it still tries to turn over. Could it be the starter? Really its the only thing that I can think of it being. I had two people at Checkers telling me that there was no way that it could be the starter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Wayne

who cares what those wanna be backyard parts replacers at checkers say!!! they are clueless......first thing I 'd do is make sure you don's have any bad connections or high resistance in any cables, after that you can do a current draw test on the starter to see how many amps it draws

ok haven't messed with it for a while cause Im a Marine and I've had a lot of work come up. I bought a new starter and put it in. when I tried it the same thing happened. Weirdest thing though is that even without the key in I can hook the battery up and as soon as I do the starter starts to kick. idont know, I thought maybe a wire that is always hot is touching something but I can't find anything. sooo lost. I might actually have to take it somewhere. That will be the first time I've ever had to give my car to someone to fix it, truly frustrating.

you need to undo all the monkey mess of wiring and put it back to stock wiring and the initial prob most likely could of been a bad elec portion of the ignition switch
