Cooked Engine???
Alright here is my scenario.... I got off the highway, heard a squealing coming from under the hood, I stopped at a gas station and when I got out of the car I realised how loud the squealing actually was. I drove the car about .5 mile to my house and parked it for the night. I went out the next day in the light and popped the hood to find nothing wrong visibly.. (thought it was the belt) I tried to start it. The car wouldnt turn over at all, gives a clank and a spinning sound when I turn the key. I checked the starter, and pulled off the belt to see if one of the pulleys were stopping the car from starting. Is my engine cooked or what?
honestly the noise sounds like ur alternator might have had a bearing inside go.. that would possibly explain the clank to when ur trying to turn that.. i dont think anything is wrong because you wouldnt have really been able to drive it anymore if it seized .. just my opinion
A clank and a spinning? Was it a high speed spinning noise? Sounds like your starter may have engaged while you were driving and got so hot that when you shut it down and let it cool it seized up inside its housing. A starter that is engaged when the motor is spinning gives a nasty whine. I know that from experience.
Pull your starter off and get a set of jumper cables and jump it to see if the gear comes out and spins like it normally would.
