Default 94 GT engine help

All,

I was involved in a serious accident on my 08 King Quad a while ago and i was out of commission with a broken back / neck and ribs. Im finally back!!!

I have had my 94 GT for 10 years now and i absolutley love it. It has 100K on the clock. The car has a new transmission and a ton of other new parts so there is no way im getting rid of it.

It blows smoke and i cant seem to figure out if its the valve seals or the rings. I have done a comression test and it seems fine in that aspect.

I consitered putting heads and a cam in it but is it really worth taking the chance of doing all that work to a car with a stock bottom end with 100K on it? I want to be cost effective and i want the car to run well, i dont need a 9 sec car or anything but i want it to last and run well for a long time.. I have been looking at 347 stroker engines and there running around 4-5K (for a longblock). If i pull my engine and bring it to the local machine shop and do all the work itll cost me roughly the same so im confused on what to do.

I dont want to wind up dumping another 10K in the car but i want it to be strong and run well. I found a couple used engines on ebay but is it worth the chance on all that work.

Im not a cob job atrins and whatever i do i want to be done right the first time. Im open to ANY ideas on a resolution.

Thank you in advance,

Bob

Good to hear you are ok. I have an uncle injured in a quad accident a year and a half ago.

On your dilemma, I am in similar situation. I have 95 GT with about 155K on the Odometer. It runs strong but has some issues. What I decided on was to build a 347 with my kids. I should be purchasing the small block next month. I don't know what your time frame is but mine is allowing me the time to purchase components as I go and save for the next component(s).

I think I am up to about $6K at current prices if I bought all of the components right now. Things may change as I start getting more input from others as I get closer to my build. If you can do that I figured I would save over $1000 dollars in labor plus learn something and teach my children something valuable. My youngest loves working on "daddy's Mustang" so i am really looking forward to it.

I would love to do the same but my boy's only 2 and a half. He absolutley loves the car but hes not old enough to understand. I am mechanically inclined but i dont know enough about clearances and the minor things to assemble the block myself (thats why i was leaning towards purchasing a long block ready to drop in.

Thank you for the feedback..
