Default Mysterious Problem

I have been burning oil for a while now (quart or two every thousand for the last 5 or 6 thousand.) Up until yesterday i had assumed it was a result of bad rings (i was frantically searching for a good place near here to replace them.) But yesterday i was gapping and cleaning my plugs and i noticed that all my plugs except for the one in cylinder 8 were bright white (8 had a pretty big gap so one would assume maybe it wasn't firing.) I read that the condition of my plugs is a result of engine overheating, wrong type of fuel, loose plugs, too hot a plug, low fuel pump pressure or incorrect ignition timing. Is there any way these two things could be linked? Or do i just have to check every possibility and replace the rings?

Thanks.

Well, they probably arent related, if you have adjusted your timing you might see some whiteness, and that is a problem in itself. If your blowing blue smoke heavily out the back then you can bet that it might be your rings, and also check for leakage under the car every time you get in it. Chances are if your not smokin, your leakin out the rear main seal, especially if you have over 120,000 miles. Another thing, if your running Synthetic oil, although it is awesome oil and helps HP and wear and tear, truth is that we do not really see the full potential of using synthetics, unless maybe you like to race every day. Maybe 2hp, and little bit longer life, but Castrol GTX and Mobil1 premium oils work almost as well. The reason I bring this up is because if your running synthetic, with a high viscosity (15W-30) or so, the oil tends to find all the places to leak out of, because its soo penetrating. You may be leaking more and in different places than you notice if your using synthetics.

Default Mysterious Problem

The white plugs can be caused by running lean as well if number 8 was oily and only if ,than you could have an intake gasket blown internally at that cylinder. It would then suck in oil and extra air like any other intake leak which could cause a lean condition and your white plugs. And if its not leaking out its being comsumed and that aren't too many options if it isn't smoking.
