Default Tachometer/Speedometer Problem

Help Me out Guys. I just bought a 91 LX 5.0 with 121,000 miles on it, and there are 2 problems. The tach from time to time jumps up to 4000 and stays there for a minute they drops back down to the correct RPM. The speedometer seems fine sometime but other times it seems real jumpy and also seems to be alot higher than it should be. I was thimling about just getting a new guage package and trying those out.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

for the speedo you may need a new cable or just the gear at the tranny....

Default Tachometer/Speedometer Problem

i have seen a bunch of late-model 5.0's have factory gauge problems after the 100,000 mile mark.My brother had that same problem with the factory tach in his '92, so he put an autometer in instead of fixing the factory one b/c they tend to be more accurate anyways. Always check the connections on electrical gauges sometimes it's something simple.

The contacs are wore out for the nedle. Or they can be dirty. Dust and can find all kinds of weard spots to hide. Take it apart acd clean it with some electrical cleaner. You can get it at Raido Shack or any computer store. DON'T USE CARB CLEANER. It will eat the plastic.
