i have a non roller block and im gonna run a roller cam, what type lifters ya guys who have done this running? i know i need the link arm retrofit ones for a hyd roller cam.

personally the extra money it costs to retrofit a roller cam in a non roller block, you could find a roller block for cheaper and do what you need to do, unless of course you are using a mexican 302 or a early 70's 302, than it may be worth it.

 

yer good i got a mexican 302 i think its a 68? id have to look. but its got a probe 347 kit. CI custom cam. and 195 canfeilds should be here this week. i gotta get lifters so i can measure for push rods when the heads get here. be prepare for a post for help doing that soon. thanks alot


worst part is i have 2 roller blocks that i could have rebuilt, i didn't know about the lifter then, but hopefully its worth it

 

your better off with the mexican block.....thicker webbing an heavier caps

 

whers a good place to get and adjustable pushrod and the testing springs? also anyone got a right up on measuring pushrod length

 

Put a solid roller cam in that thing or a flat tappet mechanical and make some real power. Those retrofit hyd roller lifters are some kinda heavy and really limit rpm but for a 347 they will be OK. You can use several differant types of pushrod length checkers there are those that have a micrometer built in and those that screw up and you have to check them with a dial caliper. I use a set of screw up types with a Starrett 12 inch dial caliper. Back in the day we made them using an old pushrod we cut in half then welded a brazed a nut on one part and a machine screw on the other. You use a machine screw small enough to go down into the pushrod. I just got spoiled and bought an entire set. You can make this kind of stuff yourself. I'm still using homemade ring compressors I made 20 years ago. I take big truck bearing races and machine the inside of the race to bore size. They look like steel sets of the cone compressors.
