Default Stereo install help

My 87 GT came with the factory EQ. I removed the stock unit. I have a Kenwood head unit with the factory harness adaptor. I wired in everything and I have no sound from the speakers. I know the head unit is good because I unpluged the Kenwood I have in my truck and plugged it into my truck and it works fine. I would guess that the EQ plug has something to do with it, but what do I have to do to make it work? Please help.
Thanks
Frank

look on the speaker harness on the factory side and count how many wires are in it? There should be 8 but I am willing to bet you have 5. This is a common ground wiring system that ford liked to do in the 80's that doesn't work well(or at all) with a floating ground radio which is all that is sold now. The easy fix is to run new speaker wire to each speaker. Save the EQ, not many people got that.

Thanks for the response. I would rather not run new speaker wire, but if I have to I will. Does anyone know of a way of doing it without running new speaker wire?

I hope 91's aren't the same way, I just bought a new deck for mine as well.

Not sure if the 87's have them, but I know 89's - 93 have factory amp that needs to be bypassed.

there is another way, I don't know that I would say that it is easier. You can trace the ground wire to see where it goes, and where the grounds connect to it at. There will be some place in the car where all the grounds are common and all you need to do then is seperate the grounds, and then run new wire from that location to your deck. This methode takes some time and technical knowledge but could be easier. I would normally give myself 30 mins to find this common piont before I would just start running new wire. You could run new wire in less then 60 mins.

We still need to make sure that this is the problem though. It could just be a bad deck......

91s and 93s and MUCH easier. Like I said hit us up on the audio forum when you guys do your cars and we can help you out.

The deck is brand new and it works fine. I swapped it into my truck to make sure it wasn't the problem.

Ok. I have the whole interior out, so that makes it a lot easier. The amp is mounted right behind the console to the hump. I unbolted & unpluged it. Then I found the other 2 connector that the radio install harness plugs into. Now I have rear speakers and dash speakers, but no door speakers. Any more advice on gettin the door speakers working.
Thanks
Frank

disconnect the amp & use the wiring from the harness u found, one is for power the other is ur speaker wires, do a search to get the info on the wire colors.
