Default Starter problems...

I had a problem about two weeks ago that my starter wouldn't stop running after starting my 1990 5.0 LX. When I finally got the battery unhooked the starter had "expired". I replaced the starter and selonoid and all was fine for the two weeks but the exact same thing happened last night. So here I am wondering, or assuming, that there is something else wrong...and it's not the selonoid or starter. A friend wondered about the ignition switch and that maybe it is staying in the "start" position?

I spent all spring dropping 7K into this car. It included the Holley Systemax II kit, and a huge bunch of other things including a 30 over bore, new pistons (obviously), etc. etc. So...I now have a beautiful 1990 Stang that eats starters!

Has anyone else had any similar problems and/or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Fords do this sometimes. Check the grounds for the soliniod. Also wiggle the wiring harnesses and firewall conectore blocks and see if the starter starts up. If it does you have a bad connection somewhere.

Thanks for the quick reply! I will try that. I ordered and received from Summitt already a mini ford racing starter and got yet another new selenoid. I will check those things out when installing. My other hope is that the reman starters I was using were too close to the BBK equal length shorty headers and the heat eventually got to the starter, even though I wouldn't think that would cause the starter to not disengage after starting the car. Thanks again!

Like your friend I have also experienced ignition switch problems as the switch wears out. The switch in my 85 occasionally requires some jiggling.
