Default help, adjustable timing pointer

so i got one of these from summit..and when i try to find TDC (with the screwdriver down the #1 spark plug hole) i cant seem to get the balance marks in line with the timing pointer.. seems to be about an inch to low, and the pointer is at its topmost adjustment. Any ideas? the balancer is the ford racing SFI approved one.

thats the timing pointer.

Why did you get an adjustable one for? To get it right you are gonna have to pull the timing cover off and be sure your timing markrs are aligned exactly straight. Then you better hope your balancer hasn't spun on you at all.

$12 or free at the junk yard

I have almost the same one(Mine made by CSR) but I'm using a 360 degree Fluidamper balancer. I set mine at TDC and marked the balancer from there. It works with smaller lightweight balancers. It's not a waste of money if you dont have one and want to be exact, lol

Well you can't be exact without tearing the timing cover off. Mine is just as exact as yours is . My new dampener came with a new stock one so its all good lol.

I double checked all of my components when I built my engine (the first time) and everything was pretty damn close to spot on!

so I just left it alone

TDC is measured at the piston and not the chain. I can check TDC with a degree wheel and piston stop. No need to take the cover off. You can't set the timing pointer with the cover off. Nothing wrong with a stock style timing pointer but my balancer is smaller and I want the pionter right down almost touching the balancer. I have an old Mr Gasket degree wheel that bolts to the balancer. If I pull the timing cover I have to reset the pointer. It's close but not close enough for me. Only takes a few minutes to set up
