Default Oil in Upper

I took off the upper intake today to paint it and i found some oil in it. Is this natural? Whats the problem if its not? Also there werent any gaskets between the upper and lower only black permetex. Im guessing this is set up wrong and i should buy some real gaskets.

most likely it's just oil coming from your crankcase breather and/or your pcv valve

You are going to want a gasket between the upper and lower. As far as the oil,Make sure that the breather filter below the PCV valve is in good order or it will push oil into the TB and eventually shove gaskets and seals out.

Most of your better auto parts stores carry them now.Used to be a dealer only item.I found the thing years ago after an oil pan gasket install and what looked like a non-functional PCV system kept it trying to shove things out.The dealership asked me how I found it when I asked for one.Nice huh?

Default oil blowby

Funny that when most guys do a rebe on the motor or intake swap they always forget to replace the PVC screen at the bottom of the PVC opening. I can't count how many times a customer brought a car into my shop complaining about oil blow by and other shops told them they need the motor rebuilt because they thought they had bad rings when it was only missing the PVC screen. I wonder how many 5.0 owners pulled the motor before they found this 6$ part missing and causing all the oil problems.

if it continues and the amount is excessive, it could be a result of excessive blowby and the result would be an overwelmed pcv system
