So the metal piece between my hood and widow got crushed beyond repair, does anyone know what that piece is called or where i would be able to get it besides a junk yard?

I had the same thing happen to me, but it was fixable. You can replace it, but I was told it requires the removal of the fenders, the windshield, etc. so you can drill out all the spot welds.

yup, its a structurally important area of the car, much like the roof and rear quarter panels

I had that happen to me twice with my crappy old fiberglass hood. Fortunately, it happened again before I got it fixed from the first time. I found a donor car and cut the cowl out of it, took apart the front clip and welded the new cowl in place of the smashed one. I had to pull a few dents out of the edge of my roof, as well. Needless to say, I went back to a stock hood with the regular latch lol.

It's not the closing of the hood that's the problem, it's the lack of the hood staying closed.

And not staying closed is more than likely do to the lack of not checking to see if was closed

I've read a lot of threads about fiberglass hoods mysteriously flying up,(usually do to operator error) but this is the first I've heard of the cheaper fiberglass hoods flexing to the point where they flex they enough to unlatch themselves.
