Default Eletrical Problem maby?

Ok so when i first brought my car it idle funny at idle but normal while driving. But i thought that was normal with under drive pulleys. The battery gauge would be normal then at idle it would go down and up. So the other day i left my park lights on all night (Dummy) and the battery died. So i charge it and it started but my batter light was on and my gauge read about 1/4 or a little over that. So I brought a brand new battery and its still the same the car starts with no trouble but the battery gauge wont go back to normal. Im thinking its the alternator but i don't want to keep guessing. SO can i have some input on this please

Do you know if there have been any wiring changes to the vehicle? I had an '89 GT that acted like this and it turned out to be those fuse links in the alternator harness. I also had a problem with the harness I used on my Falcon where the owner of the donor car had jacked up the alternator harness.

good point im not sure but as far as i know everything is all orginal except the motor so i should have the harness gone over? The car never had a battery light until today i was thinking with the weak alternators in these car the charging system isnt getting the job done

When you volt meter is jumping up and down does it also sound like your fuel pump is dying? Does you car stall at start up when this happens? If so check for vacuum leaks.

it does sometimes at start up and i have to rev it to keep it on for the 1st two or three minutes but then stops. And my radio doesn't come on and my fuel pump consistently wines i change the relay and still the same.

Trace the lines back and see what they go to. But if you found it on the drive side headlight then I'm probably guessing it doesnt go to the alternator.
