Default wont pass smog

i have a 1995 ford mustang gt 5.0L passed everything except its polluting. the hc(ppm) max is suppose to be 84 @ 15mph and mine is at 152 then the 25 mph max is suppose to be 49 and mine is at 63. does anyone know what i can change to make it pass? vaccume lines and everything else passed but those damn numbers. egr and oxygen sensor passed so its not that. if anyone knows what it might be and what i have to change just let me know thanks.

I am going thru the same thing right now. I am getting ready to go next week and I did a lot of research on what to do. I am reducing my timing to stock setting and adjusting the fuel pressure from 39 lbs to 30lbs. A lot of people also recommend getting the cats nice and hot, like driving for at least 30 minutes prior and try to have them smog it right away. Also they say to try to use the highest octane possible, and make a few passes at wot prior to the test. I guess that is supposed to blow the extra carbon deposits out. Good luck.

thats usually the first suggestion with the whole warming up the cats. if you have them. if you dont then thats your problem.

Lol with an oil pissing motor and a BBK H pipe with cats... I passed emissions at 1% of the limitations.... I'll scan the printout when I get to work on Monday.. but unless you have serious issues(which NEED taken care of)... you souldn't fail that badly.

i got the cats off a 92 fox body and they bolted right up. there in working order and i warmed up the cats by speeding threw town with out getting caught. i have bbk headers, aftermarket pulleys and thats it. and it has a little 450cca battery powering it haha bought it like that. needs atleast a 750cca battery. the asian smog tech dude said the intake manifold might need a new gasket cause he hears a hissing noise. but idk if that could be the problem. ......hate smoggin

that sounds like a vacuum leak. spray some starting fluid around the area where the hissing is coming from and see if the car revs. if so then hes right.

hc's is unburnt fuel in the exhaust stream....run a koer test and check for codes if none exist change the oil and make sure all the tune up parts are in good working order and fuel pressure and timing are set to stock specs
