Default 89 GT carb conversion no start

Ok, like the title says I converted my car over to carb. We've been trying to get the damn thing to start for 2 days but no go. It cranks and I get some pops outta the exhaust, but no fire. We've double checked the firing order, set the distributor about 100 times, filled the float bowls with fuel and poured a little into the carb but still no go. I'm using an HEI distributor as well which is brand new.

It cranks kinda slow, which is the result of a low battery....I have it on the charger right now.

My dad and I are puzzled...I'm getting really frustrated and am about ready to throw something(I was thinking 5lb sledge threw the windshield)

everyone on this website should buy one of these

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=4424

plug it inline with a spark plug wire, either at the cap or the plug, and the lightbulb flashes if you have spark coming through.

$2 at harbor freight.

Well you know you are getting fuel so maybe your spark is really sucking. Get a stock dizzy from a 85GT, a coil and ignition box and see what happens. Leave the HEI for the GM's lol

Well I'm gonna get a new battery tonight, the one I was using is dead and won't even take a charge now. I checked my spark yesterday, it was kinda weak which I attributed to too small of a hot wire going to the dizzy and also the weak battery. I upped it to a bigger wire which definitely helped but now the battery is giving me fits.

Ok, I finally got a chance to work on the car today...I've been busy with other stuff lately and haven't had much time to mess with it. Bought a new battery this morning, threw it in and cranked, nothing. Checked spark, it's got a real strong spark so that's not the problem. Filled the bowls on the carb and sprayed a little fuel down all the barrels and cranked again, flamed up through the carb so timing is off. Pulled the valve cover and brought it around to TDC on #1, balancer is at 0 and both valves are closed. Restabbed the dizzy and checked the firing order, cranked and still no fire...got some pops and whatnot, it sounded for a second like it wanted to go then got nothing.

We fooled around with it for 4 hours and got nowhere, I'm at a loss and am starting to get discouraged. The white stuff will be on the ground before too long and I'm running out of time to be able to drive it.

Here's the combo:
306
GT40P's
Comp XE270HR-14
Summit Stage 2 Intake
Summit 600cfm 4 barrel, vacuum secondaries
Long tubes
HEI dizzy
