ticking noise
my engine is ticking but whats weird is that somethimes it goes away for a while then if i drive my car hard it will come back at first i thought it was a header leak, so i changed out the gaskets but didnt change anything and also would it matter having stock exhaust gaskets with aftermarket headers. It also sounds like if its coming from the intake manifold. what can be causing this. Or can it be a lifter.

well i cant really tell if the ticking goes faster cause of my loud dumped exhaust, but if it where something in the valvetrain wont it be ticking like all the time instead of it coming and going

had the same problem. one way to temp fix or at least shut it up for me was to check my oil level and add what i needed. i agree with everyone else though when i say its a good chance its comin from the valve train. is it getting worse over time or stayin the same?

Ticking can be a lot of things, here are a few my ornery car has shared with me:
1 poor valve adjustment(can't blame the car on this one) or wrong length pushrods/wrong shims.
2 missing thermactor plugs with no egr crossover tube(put in plug, I used a thermactor with a bolt with copper gasket stuff on it)
3 bad header gasket, loose header bolts(stainless locking kind are worth it)
4 pinhole in header(this one pissed me off, headers were new)
5 alternator bearings getting tired(was cheaper to get alt fixed rather then replace it)
6 belt tensioner getting tired or being used with a slightly too long belt
7 rocker hitting underside of valve cover
5-7 are an easy check, start the car with the serpentine belt off, don't run it long though.
Hope that helps
