which block??
Over the next few years i plan on bulding a 331 stroker for my car. i have the money right now and want to buy a block so i have it and can start building it instead of wasting my money on other things. I am going to go with the DSS level 20 block. my question is which block is better to get. they have 2, the bullet short blocks that are like $2500 and then they have the CNC bare blocks for $925. i want to get the bare block but what all is needed to build it from there. I am going to get the 331 stroker kit from DSS i think also. other than a manifold, cam, oil pan, lifters. what else do i need? i know i can use some things from the 302. thanks for the help i just want to start getting things together and make my list. DSS website is www.dssracing.com if you want to look at it.
I agree with 94cbra. DSS has been having a lot of quality control problems in the last year or so. If you do go with a DSS prepped block have it check out by a local engine builder. Better safe then sorry. I've also heard the Ford Racing 302 R block is similar to the Dart block. The DSS block is just a standard 302 block that they prep.
yeah thats what i just finished reading. how much is the R302 block and where can i buy one? anyone know any good 331 stroker kits out there that arnt too expensive but reliable? thank you
I would chek out coast high performance, they always have great stroker kits and many people have great results from them. You can get the ford racing block from places like summit i belive no problems. Even summit/jegs sells a ford racing 347 stroker shrotblock with the b50 sportsman block for like 3400 with all fordged internals and stuff.
i found the R302 block on summit for like 1700 bucks. its the 4 bolt main, then they had another 302 block that was a 2 bolt main. i know 4 bolt is better but whats the difference? is 1700 about what i am going to pay for this block or does anyone know of a place i can get a better price.
1700 is going price for the r block. You could call Fortes Parts connection in burington mass they are a FRP dealer and have great prices. The 4 bolt main bolts the end main caps with four bolts instead of two which in turn creates a stronger motor. If your gonna buy a new one get a four bolt.Ive seen some older A4 blocks around for cheaper and are still as good as the r blocks. Also consider the Dart blocks there real nice to
the dart and the r blocks have the same casting and they can hold about 1000 hp the 4 bolt mains are a lot stronger then the 2 bolt so def get a 4 bolt as Hawks makes good 331 stroker kits.
