I have to disagree with you on the C6 while it is heavy and does rob power from the motor I have never had any problems with the C6 I have had about 4-5 different trucks with them all having well over 400 horsepower and constantly abused in the form of offroad, pulling, some racing, and never ever had one even hesitate on me. I love the C6 except for the lack of overdrive. I never had to get rid of one of them because of trans issues.

It may hold up to a 400-500 hp truck no matter what the type of driving is but they are not a great trans when the powers up in the 800 plus range, hell a c4 like my mightymite isn't that great in that range, if your going to get big power go with a turbo 400 or a 4l60e the gm trannys are just so much bigger and they hold more and thicker internals

Aod's are good you can run the car on the street and still run on the hywy at 70. In either case and over sized trans cooler should keep things under wraps, make sure you invest in a trans temp gauge. Its cheap insurance for maintaining good trans temps also adding a fan on the tc can also help keeping the trans cool on the hot days or stuck in traffic....
No matter how fast you drive your trans is going to heat up without a trans cooler. I drove my 83 with a c4 in it everyday doing 80 mph back and forth to work but how much you drive it is going to be determined on what you can handle with listening to the revs like that and the cash going into the gas tank

Basically your main 3 choices are a c4, AOD, or 4R70W. That really depends on how much you want to spend on the trans. You can get a race ready c4 for under $1400 but an AOD will cost you upwards to $2000 easily. I loved my c4 but if I had the money I would definitely run a AOD that was built. If you want some good tech advice on them talk to silver fox over at www.clickclickracing.com. They also have some great tech articles on building a trans yourself.
