Default cooling issues big time! help pick my brain!

ok so did the windsor swap and all that fun stuff and car runs and moves and such but when i sit at a stop light she wants to get hot..like 230 degrees hot. Ive got the 195 thermostat, a 2 row rad.(not aluminum), Taurus fan, and a brandy new waterpump. It goes down the road at 185 all day long with no issue but when she sits it gets bonkers. anybody have some input what my issue is? all help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

long time no hear!!!!!!!!!! how's it going Alex??? You gonna be at CJ'S this weekend??? as for your cooling issue, you need more air flow from that fan...is it coming on ?? iirc there is a low speed and high speed capability on that fan..how did you wire it??

The Taurus fan should be fine on that car. Make sure its coming on, and be sure its wired correctly and not trying to push air the wrong way.

yeahh ive been doin good just trying to mess with this beast and its driving me crazy. the fan is on the high (have a 2 way switch so i can select high or low) and its pulling air through the rad because it sucks a paper to the front and creates a tornado under the hood. it sucks because i wanted to drive it to cjs but that aint happening this time but ill be there for my free hotdogs! in my gti... =( maybe ill go out and buy a big aluminum rad this weekend and see if it helps

not sure if an aluminum radiator would help since it cools fine at speed, since the taurus fans draw so much current , it's possible alt output is insufficient at idle/ low speeds to the point where fan speed drops at low speeds due to insufficient current supply....just a guess without seeing it.

well thats what i was thinking i should get a bigger rad because its not flowing enough at idle but more then enough at speed. another random question...would the 92 waterpump spin the wrong way by any chance? i put the vbelt setup on it since i only have alt. so it was a thought

i believe they are reverse rotation so make sure it spins in that direction, fyi if it flows enough at speed then it should be more than sufficient, capacity wise for idle operation flow slows at idle based on water pump speed, make sure the pulley you used is close in size to oem or speed will be even further reduced if larger

sounds like you found your problem. the water pump should spin opposite of the crank.

Did you touch the top of the radiator and then the bottom to make sure its equal tempature coase if its not it could be clogged and not cerculating right. Also you might want to change to a 180 degree thremo.. I had a 95 cobra that did the same stuff and it would smoke or nothing. I rebuilt the motor and still the same problem and it ended up having a hair line crack in between the cylinder walls of the block. Good luck though on getting it fixed.
