Default Fuel line repair.

Hey fellas I could really use some help. I have a stock 87 5.0. My fuel line ruptured on the passenger side just above my steering rack. I beleive its the 5/16 steel feed line because it starts spraying fuel as soon as I turn the key on. Ive never repaired a fuel line before and was wondering what it all was involved. Id like to just replace just that section. Id like to know what parts and tools I would need and Id like to replace it with steel. Any help would be greatly appriciated Thanks.

autozone might have it but best bet is ebay... if its the one without the shredder valve then it the return line, with shredder valve feed line...also you will need a/c fuel line disconnect tool $5

determine what line it is then you will need to pry off metal clips around the connection then press in the tool and pull pretty easy

you can splice in a metal tube with compression fittings unless you wanna buy a new feed or return line. the fittings are about 3$ each you need 2 and a 6" or so piece of tubing!

simple fix either rought!

Thanks for the info guys. With those compression fittings would I need to flare all the ends that are involved? Thanks again,

No, flaring the ends wouldn't work with a compression fitting, but it's probably a better way to do it. You can get an adapter to join two flared ends, or the compression fitting, which just joins two unflared ends together and seals them.

Depending if the line that needs repairing is the pressure line or the return line should make your decision for you. Compression fittings are meant for low pressure circumstances, and shouldn't be used as anything more than temporary on any line that has high pressure in it, such as a brake line, fuel feed line, etc.

So If it is the high pressure feed line I should flare all the ends and use the proper fittings for flared ends, Thanks
