Default Dead spot when accelerating?

When driving my car in first gear, there seems to be a dead spot while accelerating with the pedal 3/4 way down. As dumb as this sounds, its the only way I can think to describe it. Put the pedal 3/4 or a little more to the floor and the car accelerates slowly, like it pulling a boat ancor, then all of the sudden it pulls like the chain to the boat ancor fell off. All the way to the floor it accelerates smoothly. A friend of mines 5.0 does the exact same thing. Mine only does it part of the time which is weird. Anyone have a clue what it is or where to start in diagnosing this issue. Or is it a normal thing that can be fixed with an upgrade? Thanks guys. All stock, only thing different than stock is in the sig.

get your hands on a DVOM and check the voltage of the TPS across the range of sweep. Look for a drop in voltage as you open the throttle.
