Default 02 Sensor

I have a 1995 Mustang Gt. I have after market exhaust. I was wandering if my 02 sensor could cause bad gas mileage. I heard it could. I was wandering if you could clean them or if you have to replace them?? And where are they located at? Also how hard are they to clean-change?? Let me know thanks.

if you have a bad o2 your computer will not go into closed loop operation...you will get terrible fuel milage...
the sensor that is bad must be replaced...they can not be cleaned

not that hard to change... spray with wd 40 and let them sit for a while then get under there and wrench them out. real easy as long as there not rusty if they are better give them a littel more wd

It sounds like I need to replace the o2 sensor in my car as well because I have the same problem as the person above where my light comes on after the car warms up. I went to 50resto.com and was going to order one for my 1990 5.0 convertable auto and the part # I get depend on an O.E. ID number and there are 4 differnt ones for my year. I am wondering how I can tell which one it is that I need.

I beg to differ on that comment, I just swapped out my old h-pipe and headers and my driver's side 02 sensor was in there GOOD, I ended up buying new ones because it was nearly impossible to remove the old one. But you're car has a few less years on mine so it'll probably be easier (depending if there is a lot of rust on it etc.). It's going to run you about 80 bucks for two new ones though.

A BAD O2 SENSOR WILL NOT CAUSE THE COMPUTER TO STAY IN OPEN LOOP. The only thing that causes a the computer not to go into closed loop is the degree of the coolant temperature. A bad 02 sensor generally gets stuck at lean 0.00-.2V and will cause the car to run rich yes, so if you can't verify or remember when the O2 sensors were replaced last, then I'd try and test them and then replace them if they're lazy or shot.

i'm sorry, but you are WRONG sir. if the o2 is failed, then maybe its not sending ANY signal to the computer, in which case the computer WILL NOT go into closed loop. there are lots of things that the computer looks at as it goes from open to closed loop... its not just coolant temp.
