2 Problems
Hi All, I have a 91 Mustang GT hatchback. I just got the car and already I can tell someone has been playing with it, which is to be expected.
I noticed the fuel level gauge doesn't work. The Water temp guage doesn't work. The E-Brake doesn't work and the front struts are really bad from it sitting for so long.
Overall the car runs and shifts great.
Okay, to the problems.
I bought a pillar pod with three guages (oil pressure, water temp, vacuum). Now I need to buy a fuel level guage. I started to buy one but then realized they had several but ALL of them mentioned differet OHM levels for the guages.
Which guage do I need?
One was like 10-180. Another was 73-140. etc. There are several. Their all the same brand. They look the same. The only difference is the OHM level so I'm assuming the wrong one would give an incorrect fuel level.
Any help with this would be great.
2nd problem...
When I first got the car it wouldn't start. We jumped the battery and the car started, but very weak. I went down to NAPA and picked up a new batter and to my surprise the car STILL wouldn't start. I exchanged the new batter thinking it was bad and got the same thing. The alternator on the car appears to be new, as well as the coil, ford racing plug wires, and msd distributer.
I noticed when the car tries to crank over, though very weak, it sounds like something is rubbing or grinding.
I was wondering if the starter was bad. Maybe something has gone bad inside from it sitting so long?
I plan on taking off the starter and having the parts store test it.
IF the starter tests as good then what else could cause the car to crank so weak?
It acts like the starter is very weak or perhaps the engine has extremely high compression, but as far as I know the engine itself is all stock.
Any thoughts on the matter are appreciated. Thanks.

you need to perform a voltage drop test on the cables and if you had a vat tester, you could perform a cranking test...had a simialar prob with a jeep comanche, after performing such tests...it was narrowed down to the starter = fixed the prob

Which cables are you referring to testing? You talking about the cables that go to the starter? Test them at the end where the starter is at?
