Default Speeometer problem

Hey guys i have a quick question for you. I have a 1995 mustang gt 5 speed. My speedometer worked but it was wrong bc of the 4.10s i have in it. One day while driving "speedo way off" it just stopped working. When i put the car on the lift the connector for it was off. when i put it back on it didnt work. Since then i have replaced the speedo gears. My question is. Is there a little shaft that runs into the speedo gear that spins the sensor that attaches to it. if there is thats my problem. If someone knows exactly what this part is called that would help me out a lot.

If that shaft is missing, theres a pretty good chance that it's inside the tranny. might wanna snake a tiny magnet into the hole and see if you can get it out.
