Default t5 problem

my t5 in my 89 gt has been giving a small problem.i have a leak at the tail shaft...so i added some lucas to slow the leak until i can fix it. but for some reason my car grinds going in third after it has been sitting...
for instance first drive of the day...car grinds going into third for the first time of the day...then the rest of the time, its perfect.sometimes 4th grinds very slightly...after that first time tho...it doesnt do it...unless it sits for awhile.
its almost like the lucas is too thick and takes sometime to work around the gears???
if im very easy when i shift...you can barely notice the grind. did i add too much lucas? or is it something else? i wouldnt think my synchros would act that way for just those "first drive" situations...

Lucas thickens up the tranny oil. Sounds like your tranny is due for a rebiuld or replacement.

Hanlon Motorsports (sp?) has rebuild walkthrough dvd. I used it to rebuild mine a while back. Not hard at all.

I did the same thing way back when to try to get mine to stop leaking, and it messed up the shifting. The T-5 apparently doesn't like anything except Merkon or Dexron III.

drain the lucas crap out, intall mercon only, and grind is the blocker rings, friction material on such worn out, however the teeth on the syncronizer hub that mesh with the blocker rings which are built on to the corresponding gears also need to be inspected, if they are not triangle shaped like a roof then said gear must be replaced, continuous grinding will mushroom them flat, 2nd and third are often the receipiants of such.

Yep, the video walked me through checking the components out, and I had to buy another second gear and the 1-2 slider. My synchros were bad for way too long.
