Exclamation so confused!!!!!!!!

ok, so im extremely lost with what my car is doing. ive read multiple threads on here with guys having the same exact problems im having. im closer to fixing it then i have been but im kinda iffy. so here goes again. when the car is cold itll start, usually no problems. cold as in, left setting overnight. once its running itll continue to run like theres nothing wrong. once you shut it off, its like it was getting no spark. so i check the plugs for spark and i have spark. ok, i turn the key on and my fuel pump kicks on and after a second or two it goes off as usual. so im getting fuel. but still no start. so ive changed the ignition module on the front of the distributor. then it would start and run until i shut it off and the next day itll start and do the same thing again. so someone said something about the pick up inside the distributor. ive changed that also. still acting the same way. so whats the deal. is it my ecm? ive looked around at some used computers but id like some input on to whether or not that may be a possibility. just keep in mind, it will start after you let it set for a while. so idk what to do!!!!

hook a fuel pressure gauge to it and see what happens the first time you start it. should run about 40 psi and hold pressure for the most part when you turn it off.

i have a fuel pressure gauge mounted on the cowl panel hooked into the shrader valve. it immediately goes to between 39-42 psi at the turn of the key, the pump kicks on and a couple seconds later it goes off like normal. fuel pressure is not a problem at all. it even holds pressure while cranking and after. a old time mechanic told me yesterday about an ecm relay. he said it should be over there close to the fuel pump relay and the computer. is that so? i havent paid much attention to that so idk.

Yes the ecm relay is behind the kick panel right next to computer. But if car starts cold and you've replaced the known problem parts, I'd start with checking all grounds. My car was giving me troubles something like your going thru and it turned out to be a bad ground from a aftermarket ignition box to the block. It all looked new and was tight, but previous owner didn't completely scrape the paint off block. Car has been perfect since. Took me 2 days of pulling / cleaning connectors to find it thou.

is this something that just started out of the blue or did you buy the car with this issue? have you taken the top end apart at all recently?

If the ECM relay wasn't working the FP wouldn't prime. Chances are good that you purchased a faulty TFI/PIP.

I had some strange issues going on with mint that turned out to be the TPS. I think once it was warmed up the contacts inside of it would sometimes work and othertimes not so much. TPS is easy enough to test

My ECU failed intermittently. It was not sending signals to the injectors so everything would check out fine. the easiest test was spraying some starting fluid into the air intake. It would run fine on the starting fluid, but stop when the spray stopped. I am not convinced that you need an ECU at this time I recommend following the recommendations of the group until you have eliminated everything else.

good luck!
