Default Starting/Stalling/surging problems?

Ok, ill give ya the run down on it.

got my 88 GT 5spd a couple weeks ago.
in the last week starting was a pain. crank but no start, try again and it would start.
drive fine
i bought everything for a tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor.
popped the hood and everything looked new minus the plugs. looked a lil rusty.
replaced the plugs and made sure the wires were up away from the exhaust(made that mistake before)
ran fine, still starting weird

last thursday i was comming home from work and the car bogged down taking off in 2nd gear. figured it was me not upping the rpms enough, shrugged it off.
couple miles down the road, cruising in 5th at 60 mph the car violently shook and sputtered.
i threw the car in neutral and coasted but the rpms were surging. tried to give the car gas and it would bog like it was going to die.
finally got the car pulled over and it would just surge and try to die.
i shut it off and tried to start it again.
after cranking a lil it started but was surging again.
had it towed to my house where its been sitting for a couple days. with the weather being wet i cant get to it to work on it.
im hoping to get going on it soon.

anyone help on this?

Check your TPS voltage, and run a diagnostic. Normally with the Key On Engine Off the TPS voltage from Green to ground should be 1.0 VDC. If it isn't, adjust it. If it won't adjust replace the TPS. This is normally the problem.

But surging may also involve the EGR sensor, the Idle Motor, and O2 Sensors as well, and so the diagnostic may be in order.

Be aware that the Diagnostic is OBD I (EEC-IV) and not OBD II. Your local parts house should have the 'Ford' EEC-IV diagnostic tool.
